History
The Cigar Dinner was born twenty-four years ago, primarily through the efforts of Mark Mandeville
and Tony Heckenkemper, whose combined goal was to provide an event for the men of our community
to gather and to raise funds for the Christ the King Education Endowment Fund. From its humble beginnings
those 20 years ago in a small tent on the east side of the Christ the King gymnasium, the Cigar Dinner
quickly became an annual favorite and graduated to a much larger multi-tent affair on the west side of the
old Early Childhood Development Center. After a multi-year run in this location, the Cigar Dinner was
then moved to its present location in the Rucker Warehouse.
Over its history, the Cigar Dinner has annually brought several hundred men, both from within and from
outside the Christ the King community, together in a fun, albeit somewhat smoky atmosphere. In addition
to the fun and the many stories for those who have attended regularly, the Cigar Dinner has raised well in
excess of $400,000 for the CTK Education Endowment Fund. It has been a success from both a community
and financial standpoint and it is hoped that it will continue for years to come.
From the annual raffle ticket buying frenzy to win the much sought after Hasty-Bake, to the women of the
community who donate their time to help serve and sell us those tickets, to Mark Mandeville's bad jokes and
constant jabs, to Phil and Brent who so often entertained us, and to all who have consistently supported this
event, we and the children of this community offer our sincere thanks.
Since the passing of Mark Mandeville in 2010, all proceeds are added to the Mark Mandeville Bursar of the
Christ the King Education Endowment Fund. This action is in recognition of not only Mark's contributions
to the creation and evolution of this event, but to his wonderful spirit and ever positive faith that endured
throughout his battle with ALS. Mark touched all of our lives with his courage in the face of this ruthless
adversary that ultimately took his life.
We are all truly blessed and this event is an example of what, over time, the efforts of a small community
can accomplish together.
Cigars
Mild-Medium
Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne
The Champagne is Perdomo’s best-selling brand in America! Comprised of a fine, Cuban-seed Nicaraguan blend of extensively aged tobaccos, the Champagne is hugged by a stunning, triple-fermented Connecticut shade wrapper. The cigar is superior on all fronts, pumping out various nuances including rich tobacco flavors, hints of coffee, creamy undertones, and a subtle sweetness, almost like honey.
Micallef Torcedores
A great stick from start to finish. Being classically Cuban box-pressed, it’s easy to hold and hard to walk away from. Just the right mix of reserve tobaccos makes this cocktail blend something for everyone. From novice to aficionado, the strength and complexity surprise, revealing a flavor profile in a caliber all its own. Earthy sun-drenched wood, rich warm leather, fresh fruit, distinctive spice and fragrant vanilla comprise the well-rounded Torcedores and embody the spirit of its cigar family line.
Oliva Gilberto Reserva
Gilberto Oliva Reserva comes wrapped in a dark Indonesian Sumatra wrapper. The wrapper itself normally produces a mellower profile, but when paired up with an Ecuadorian binder and rich Nicaraguan long-fillers you can expect a zesty medium-bodied cigar with smooth notes of earth, leather, and spice.
Medium-Full
Aganorsa JFR Maduro
The JFR Maduro Cigar is made in Nicaragua by the Casa Fernandez Company who continues to produce some of the top cigars in the industry. The JFR Maduro is no exception to that. It is comprised of a Maduro wrapper that is draped beautifully over a mix of Nicaraguan filler and binder. What you end up with is a smooth-smoking cigar compromised of notes of cocoa, earth, spice and a nice tobacco sweetness.
Seijas Signature Series
Jose Seijas is the master blender for such iconic brands as Montecristo and Romeo & Julieta. After years of setting aside select tobacco, Jose Seijas decided to create a special limited-edition release dubbed the Jose Seijas Signature Series 2000. The cigars are blended using these rare sourced tobaccos comprised of Dominican, Peruvian and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, along with a Dominican binder and a dark oily Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The result is an ultra-smooth & creamy cigar with complexed notes, making for a perfect anytime of the day cigar.
Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
Vintage 1990 is a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan Ligero draped in a tantalizing natural Broadleaf wrapper from Honduras. It's medium-bodied and box-pressed with a really enjoyable, complex smooth-rich flavor.
Premium Table
Aganorsa Leaf Maduro
Casa Fernandez has been producing some of the most revered tobaccos in the industry for three decades. Used in respected names from Illusione to Alec Bradley, Casa Fernandez has plenty of street cred. Now they are putting their award-worthy tobaccos to use under their own name, and boy have they made a splash!
The Aganorsa maduro boasts the same vintage Nicaraguan long-fillers from Aganorsa as the original Corojo version. The twist comes in the form of a well-aged San Andres maduro wrapper leaf adorning the top of the blend. Heady notes of chocolate, sweet cream, and coffee cascade over the palate with a medium to full-bodied strength bumping this offering up to the top of many connoisseur’s lists.
